COP27: Rolling out the Africa-EU Green Energy Initiative (AEGEI): Accelerating its implementation

The AEGEI is one of the key flagships of the Global Gateway Africa–Europe Investment Package. The European Commission has set aside EUR 2.4 billion of its budget to support and leverage private sector investments and improve the regulatory environment in the energy sector in Africa.

Together with EU Member States and European Development banks, the AEGEI demonstrates the efforts of European stakeholders to work as a Team Europe and to consolidate and coordinate actions in sustainable energy with the ambition to increase impact and visibility.

The event will focus on the implementation of the AEGEI, to achieve energy access for people and the economy through the development of renewable energy and energy efficiency actions across the continent, and exploring the role of raw materials value chains and renewable hydrogen for Africa’s energy transition and economic development.

Scope of this high-level event is to highlight the concreteness of the Africa-EU Green Energy Initiative and showcase the capacity it has to deliver on the ground and establish partnerships
