2016: Second AEEP Stakeholder Forum (Milan, Italy)

The Second AEEP Stakeholder Forum took place from 16-17 May 2016 in Milan, Italy. The Forum was jointly hosted by the Italian Government, the African Union Commission and the European Commission. The Forum saw African and European Ministers, AU and EU Commissioners, and more than 300 other participants representing policymakers, regional institutions, international organisations, the banking & finance industry, the private sector, academia, the civil society and the media participate.

Coming at a time of increased international attention on energy in Africa (including post-COP21 and the establishment of SDG7), the second AEEP Stakeholder Forum helped sharpen the role and contributions of a wide range of stakeholders, notably on increasing (private sector) investment in energy infrastructure. It also worked to enhance the engagement of non-state actors in the development of the sustainable energy sector development in Africa, whilst also providing a framework for dialogue through the convening of African and European leaders.
