The Africa-EU Energy Partnership (AEEP) will host the 22nd edition of the AEEP Energy Talks, and the first of 2026, on 26 February 2026, 11:00–12:45 CET (13:00–14:45 EAT).

The session, titled “Financing SDG7 in Africa: Africa-Europe collaboration in a changing geopolitical environment,” will examine how progress toward UN Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG7) – ensuring access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all, can be accelerated in Africa through effective financing and strengthened Africa–Europe cooperation.

Despite notable progress, current investment levels remain insufficient to meet SDG7 targets by 2030. At the same time, the global financing landscape is undergoing significant change. Shifting geopolitical priorities, increasing pressure on concessional finance, and a growing emphasis on strategic partnerships, private sector mobilisation, and domestic financing are reshaping how energy access and clean energy investments are supported.

Against this backdrop, the webinar will explore how Africa–Europe collaboration can continue to serve as a central pillar for advancing SDG7 in Africa under these evolving conditions. The event will also mark the launch of the fourth edition of the AEEP flagship report on ‘European financial flows on SDG7 to Africa’, presenting a comprehensive, data-driven analysis of financing trends over the period 2014–2023, including key instruments, gaps, and remaining challenges.

In addition, participants will be introduced to the Africa–EU Green Energy Initiative (AEGEI), a Team Europe initiative under the Global Gateway, which aims to provide clean energy access to at least 100 million people and support the deployment of 50 GW of renewable energy capacity across Africa by 2030.

The session will bring together policymakers, development finance institutions, think tanks, and energy experts from Africa and Europe to reflect on financing priorities and the future of SDG7 delivery in a rapidly changing global environment.
