AEEP Energy Talks: Achieving SDG7 in Africa – The 2022 AEEP Report: European Financial Flows on SDG7 to Africa

Showcasing Joint Action Thriving Political Dialogue

On 1 March, 14:00-15:30 CET, the AEEP Energy Talks will explore the results of the Africa-EU Energy Partnership’s second annual ‘European Financial Flows on SDG7 to Africa’ report, which analyses the progress being made towards providing access to cost-effective, dependable, sustainable, and modern energy for all in Africa.

Covering the years 2014 to 2020, the results of the report indicate that the achievement of SDG7 is feasible. The report highlights a realistic pathway towards closing the investment gap given that key stakeholders meet the necessary demands. If the current trend in growth of investment continues, SDG7 is expected to be achieved by 2034.

Europe’s increased commitment to financing and technical assistance will play a critical role in achieving SDG7. Simultaneously African national governments, external lenders, and private sector investors, must increase their commitments.

To discuss the results and their implications for the African-European energy collaboration the AEEP is convening its ninth Energy Talks.

Speakers include:

Kamugisha Kazaura, Director for Infrastructure and Energy, African Union Commission (AUC)(TBC)

Olgerts Viksne, Policy Officer Sustainable Energy DG INTPA, European Commission

Daniel Odeoye, Principal, Verod Capital Management

Emma Gordon, Energy and Investment Analyst, IEA

Ajay Ubhi, Head of Data, Cross-border Information (CbI)

The March edition of the AEEP Energy Talks will be held in English. It will be moderated by Johan van den Berg, Head of Secretariat, Africa-EU Energy Partnership (AEEP) and introduction done by Maximilian Heil, EU Liaison and Policy Advisor, Africa-EU Energy Partnership (AEEP)
