AEEP ENERGY TALKS

The 15th AEEP Energy Talks on 26 June 2024, highlighted the critical status of clean cooking on the continent and lessons learnt from African-European collaboration on clean cooking solutions and their impacts.

The 15^th AEEP Energy Talks on 26 June 2024 (11:00-13:00 CET/12:00-14:00 EAT) will dive into the topic “Fueling Partnerships: Investing in Clean Cooking for Health, Equality, and Climate in Africa”. The webinar will highlight the urgent need for clean cooking solutions in Africa and share insights from Africa-European collaboration on their impacts.

The 14th AEEP Energy Talks on 08 May 2024 dived into “Empowering Africa: Accelerating Energy Efficiency for Sustainable Development”. The online event highlighted the role of energy efficiency to meet Africa’s energy needs, and as an essential component of SDG7 and COP28’s Global Renewables and Energy Efficiency pledge. 

The 14^th AEEP Energy Talks on 08 May 2024 will delve into “Empowering Africa: Accelerating Energy Efficiency for Sustainable Development”. The online event will spotlight the role of energy efficiency to meet Africa’s energy needs, and as an essential component of SDG7 and COP28’s Global Renewables and Energy Efficiency pledge.

The 13th Africa-EU Energy Partnership (AEEP) Energy Talks focused on “Island Power: Charting Renewable Pathways for African Island States,” addressing energy challenges in AIS. The discussion highlighted African Union Commission’s (AUC) tailored program for sustainable energy infrastructure and collaboration between Africa and Europe. 

The Africa-EU Energy Partnership’s (AEEP) 13^th Energy Talks will focus on the unique energy challenges confronting African Island States (AIS) including Comoros, Mauritius, Seychelles, and others. These states grapple with the dilemma of being disconnected from the continental energy grid, which means a heavy reliance on costly fossil fuel imports. Renewable resources, such as solar, wind, bioenergy, geothermal, hydropower, and tidal and wave energy, offer a reliable alternative for African Island States.

The Africa Climate Summit in Nairobi, in September 2023, set the stage for discussions at COP28 in the UAE. The 12th AEEP Energy Talks on 8 November highlighted the road from ACS to COP28. The webinar underlined the challenges in private financing, the role of green hydrogen, and the importance of trust-building between Africa and Europe.

The Africa-EU Energy Partnership (AEEP) is hosting the 12^th  instalment of its Energy Talks on 8 November , 2023, from 11:00 to 12:30 CET (13:00-14:30 EAT) will explore the theme “From ACS to COP28: Unlocking Opportunities for a Synergetic Africa-EU Climate and Energy Future.” The webinar will facilitate a dialogue between African and European stakeholders in the lead up to the 28^th Conference of the Parties (COP28).

To highlight the benefits of a solar economy in Africa, the Africa-EU Energy Partnership (AEEP) is organising the 11^th AEEP Energy Talks on “Sunlight Success: Pursuing African Development Priorities Through a Solar Economy” on 5 July 2023, from 14:00 to 15:30 CEST. The webinar aims to bring together key stakeholders, experts, and policymakers to discuss and explore the potential of a solar economy in Africa.

The 10th edition of the AEEP Energy Talks, on 3 May 2023, focused on the utilisation of renewable hydrogen for decarbonising value chains and promoting development in Africa and the EU. The event explored the potential of renewable hydrogen in transforming the energy sector, highlighting both the opportunities and challenges associated with its production and distribution.

On 3 May 2023, (14:00–15:30 CEST), the Africa-EU Energy Partnership (AEEP) will host the 10th AEEP Energy Talks on “Utilising Renewable Hydrogen to Decarbonise Value Chains and Drive Development in Africa and the EU”

The virtual AEEP Energy Talks will focus on the potential of renewable hydrogen to transform the energy landscape on both continents, and the opportunities and challenges faced in renewable hydrogen production and distribution.

The 9th AEEP Energy Talks will explore the results of the Africa-EU Energy Partnership’s second annual ‘European Financial Flows on SDG7 to Africa’ report, which analyses the progress being made towards providing access to cost-effective, dependable, sustainable, and modern energy for all in Africa.

The 27th Conference of Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27) dubbed as the African COP, held from 06 until 20 November 2022 in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt. 

On 6 December 2022, the Africa – EU Energy Partnership (AEEP) hosted the eighth AEEP Energy Talks. The webinar reviewed the outcomes of COP27 and explored the opportunity they bring to recalibrate the partnership between Africa and Europe.  

The 8th AEEP Energy Talks will take place on 6 December, 11:00 – 12:30 (CET). The webinar will explore the energy outcomes from COP27 and the opportunities they bring to recalibrate the energy partnership between Africa and Europe.

On 23 March, the Africa-EU Energy Partnership (AEEP) hosted the seventh instalment of the AEEP Energy Talks, offering panellists from Africa and Europe the opportunity to explored the outcomes of the recent EU-AU Summit and exchanged insights on their expectations for COP27.

The 7^th AEEP Energy Talks will explore the energy outcomes from the EU-AU Summit, and what priorities Africa and Europe should focus on ahead of COP27.

The 6th AEEP Energy Talks will dive into the 2021 AEEP Report: European Financial Flows on SDG7 to Africa. Key findings will be presented and discussed with a range of African and European energy experts, and connecting insights from the report with the outcomes of the UN High-level Dialogue on Energy.

Harnessing the rich renewable energy sources available in Africa is pivotal for ensuring a structural shift towards resilient and sustainable low-carbon economies.

The 5th AEEP Energy Talks brings together African and European experts to debate mobilising private investment in renewable energy to advance a sustainable energy transition in Africa. 

The AEEP Energy Talks Spotlight highlights the importance of including women in the energy transition in Africa.

The 4th AEEP Energy Talks convened African and European experts to discuss the indispensable role of women as changemakers in the energy transition. The energy sector in Africa and Europe is experiencing a radical transition, moving from conventional energy sources to renewables and aiming to achieve access to energy for all by 2030.

The 3rd AEEP Energy Talks convenes African and European experts on wind energy.  According to the IEA, Sub-Saharan Africa offers a wind energy potential of 1,300GW. However, to achieve these projections, new policy frameworks are required to engage local communities and raise investments in transmission infrastructure.

Harnessing the rich renewable energy sources available in Africa is pivotal for ensuring a structural shift towards resilient and sustainable low-carbon economies. Africa’s transition to green growth is underway.

The 2nd AEEP Energy Talks convenes African and European experts on energy efficiency in buildings.  For a sustainable, economic recovery after COVID-19, green buildings are essential. The building sector can rapidly create jobs and stimulate local economic activity.

The first webinar discusses the challenges and opportunities of green hydrogen and its impact on the bicontinental partnership. Green Hydrogen is seen as a future key technology to secure the full decarbonisation of our energy system. Due to the abundance of renewable energy potential in Africa, green hydrogen offers a cooperation opportunity for both continents.
