AEEP Energy Talks Spotlight – Green Hydrogen for Industrial Transformation: Exploring Opportunities for Sustainable Industrial Value Chains and Decarbonisation

The 19th AEEP Energy Talks on 7 May 2025 explored the potential of green hydrogen and its derivatives to support green industrialisation and deep decarbonisation of energy intensive industries.
In collaboration with the Green Hydrogen Business Alliance, the 19th AEEP Energy Talks convened experts and panellists to discuss the challenges, provide strategic recommendations and share best practices on developing sustainable green hydrogen markets and industries and how to foster cooperation among a wide range of stakeholders in the green hydrogen value chain.
The webinar began with opening remarks by Sara Elhag, Head of Energy Division at the African Union Commission, and Gianluca Azzoni, Head of Policy and Cooperation at the EU Delegation to the African Union.
This was followed by a presentation titled “Localising Green Industrialisation: Creating Local Value in the Emerging Low-Emission Hydrogen Economy” by Dr Tilman Altenburg, Senior Researcher at the German Institute of Development and Sustainability (IDOS).
The session then continued with a panel discussion on “Green Hydrogen as a Lever for Industrialisation: Financing and Industrial Opportunities”, moderated by Farhanja Wahabzada, Team Lead at the Green Hydrogen Business Alliance and featuring the participation of:
– Nikol Anuschka Hearn, Head of Financial Transactions at the Namibia Green Hydrogen Programme
– Bart De Smet, Lead Green Hydrogen Developments at Invest International
– Tanya Gumbo, Business Developer at HDF Energy
– Shawn Modise, Acting Chief Executive Officer at the Northern Cape Economic Development, Trade and Investment Promotion Agency
