21st AEEP Energy Talks to Review ACS2 Outcomes and Africa-EU Cooperation Ahead of COP30

Evidence and Knowledge Thriving Political Dialogue

The Africa-EU Energy Partnership (AEEP) will host the 21st Energy Talks webinar on 5 November 2025, from 13:00 – 14:30 CET (14:00 – 15:30 EAT). The session titled “From ACS2 to COP30: Advancing Africa and EU Cooperation to Deliver on Common Priorities” will provide a detailed debrief of the 2nd Africa Climate Summit (ACS2), which took place from 8–10 September 2025 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

ACS2, convened under the theme “Accelerating Global Climate Solutions and Financing for Africa’s Resilient and Green Development”, served as a platform for Africa to present a unified voice leading up to COP30 in Brazil in November. The summit focused on climate adaptation and resilience, as well as climate finance, and concluded with the draft Addis Ababa Declaration.

The Declaration calls for African unity in climate negotiations, investments in renewable energy and sustainable initiatives, and international support for priorities including the African Single Electricity Market (AfSEM), the Continental Power Systems Masterplan (CMP), and the Africa Energy Efficiency Strategy (AfEES). It also calls on developed countries to scale up climate finance, targeting USD 1.3 trillion annually by 2035, with simplified access procedures, especially for Least Developed Countries and Small Island Developing States.

The 21st AEEP Energy Talks will bring together African and European experts to analyse the ACS2 outcomes, discuss the translation of the Addis Ababa Declaration into policy and projects, and explore AU-EU collaboration in preparation for COP30. The panel will discuss how ACS2 outcomes can be translated into mobilising climate finance and strengthening Africa-Europe collaboration to support a just and sustainable energy transition.
