Achieving SDG7 in Africa Is a Sound Investment

Knowledge Facilitation Showcasing Joint Action

The 2021 AEEP Report European Financial Flows on SDG7 to Africa shows that, while a lot remains to be done, SDG 7 is achievable in Africa. In a guest article on the IISD SDG Knowledge Hub, Fiona D. Wollensack-Boult of the AEEP Secretariat discusses the findings and emphasises that achieving SDG7 in Africa is a sound investment as the cost of inaction would be far greater.

The AEEP report finds that an additional €69 billion is needed on average annually to realise SDG7, but that this cost is far less than the amount lost each year to power outages and electricity inefficiencies.
