Congratulations – H.E. Dr. Amani Abou-Zeid Elected For Second Term

Thriving Political Dialogue

Dr. Amani Abou-Zeid was re-elected for another term as Commissioner for Infrastructure and Energy at the African Union Commission during the AU Summit of African Heads of State and Government in February 2021.

With over 30 years of experience serving in leadership positions in international organisations, Dr. Abou-Zeid will continue to lead the implementation of the African Union Agenda 2063 in the energy, transport and ICT sectors. During her first term at the African Union Commission she led the launch of several flagship initiatives including the Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM), African Single Electricity Market (AfSEM), First African Digital Transformation Strategy as well as the second 10-year Priority Action Plan of the Programme for Infrastructure Development in Africa (PIDA-PAP II).

As a strong advocate for mainstreaming gender into infrastructure development, Dr. Abou-Zeid also launched the African Women in Infrastructure Network (ANWIn), which has helped to mobilise a wide range of stakeholders to focus on integrating women into the value chains of infrastructure projects.

For the next four years Dr. Abou-Zeid will focus on using the post COVID-19 recovery process to mobilise partners and stakeholders to accelerate the implementation of AU continental and regional initiatives. The AEEP is looking forward to continuing the deep collaboration during her next term.
