AEEP Forum 2023: Building Bridges to Green Growth

Allgemein Showcasing Joint Action Thriving Political Dialogue

The Africa-EU Energy Partnership (AEEP) is thrilled to announce the details of its third annual AEEP Forum, under the theme “Building Bridges for Green Growth: Africa-EU Partnership for Climate Compatible Energy Access.” Scheduled as a side event at the Africa Climate Summit (ACS), the AEEP Forum will take place on September the 4th, from 16:30 to 17:30 EAT at the Kenya International Convention Centre (KICC), in Nairobi, Kenya.

As Africa and Europe join forces to combat climate change and enhance energy access, the AEEP Forum serves as a pivotal platform to align priorities, collaborate, and pave the way for a sustainable energy future.

The event seeks to bring together high-level representatives from both continents to engage in insightful discussions and chart a course for future cooperation – to align shared priorities and envision joint actions for climate-compatible energy access.

Speakers include:

Dr Kamugisha Kazaura, Director Infrastructure and Energy, African Union Commission (AUC)

Ms Carla Montesi, Director Green Deal and Digital Agenda, European Commission (EC)

Dr Bärbel Kofler, Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, Germany

The AEEP Forum welcomes participants both in-person and virtually via a live stream. To register please visit https://africa-eu-energy-partnership.org/aeep-forum/

Guided by Africa’s Agenda 2063 and the African Common Position on Energy Access and Just Transition, as well as the commitments of the EU’s Global Gateway strategy, the AEEP Forum underscores the commitment to comprehensive energy development pathways. Over the past 15 years, Africa and Europe have collaborated extensively to ensure affordable and reliable energy access for all Africans. Initiatives such as the African Single Electricity Market (AfSEM) and the Africa-EU Green Energy Initiative continue to drive these efforts.

The forum will address pressing questions about simultaneously pursuing climate action and energy access while upholding human rights principles. Panelists will share insights on scaling up renewable energy, leapfrogging into renewables-based systems, and unlocking finance options for a mutual partnership.
