The Second African Union – European Union Foreign Affairs Ministerial Meeting in Kigali, Rwanda, on 25-26 October 2021 re-iterated the need for countries to work hard on comprehensive long-term strategies, increased green investments, scaled up climate adaptation measures and decisive actions in all sectors of the economy.
On 20 October 2021, the Africa-EU Energy Partnership (AEEP) is holding its Forum Aligning Energies for a Green and Prosperous Africa.The half-day event will help to shape the future focus of Africa and Europe’s collaboration on energy and climate.
In the second AEEP Energy Champion Conversation we meet Saliem Fakir, Executive Director of the African Climate Foundation (ACF). He talks about the importance of Africa working closely with Europe to find technical and financial solutions to scale the new energy revolution on the continent, and notes that a clean energy transition has become an achievable ideal during his carrier.
The sixth AEEP Energy Talks, on 29 September 2021, 14.00 – 16.00 (CEST), will present key findings of the 2021 AEEP Report: European Financial Flows on SDG7 to Africa. The results are discussed with a range of African and European energy experts, and connected to the outcomes of the UN High-level Dialogue on Energy.
In the first AEEP Energy Champion Conversation we meet Safiatou Alzouma Nouhou, the Director of the Independent Implementation Unit at the African Renewable Energy Initiative (AREI). She highlights the need to adopt a colloquial and inclusive apprach to make the African energy transition achievable.
