Africa’s energy transition mineral sector can be a driver of equitable economic growth, providing opportunities for Africa and Europe, while fostering a more sustainable and resilient global supply chain. These were some of the outcomes of the discussion on 8 September 2025, when the Africa-EU Energy Partnership (AEEP), jointly with Africa Europe Foundation (AEF), hosted a high-level policymakers dialogue on energy transition minerals as part of the second Africa Climate Summit (ACS2) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

On June 26, 2025, the Africa-EU Energy Partnership (AEEP) convened a successful meeting of its Steering Group (SG), reaffirming the commitment of African and European partners to collaborative action on sustainable energy access, transition, and investment. The meeting brought together representatives from the African Union Commission (AUC), the European Union Delegation to the African Union (EUD), Member States, and key implementing partners to assess progress, align on next steps, and advance joint strategic priorities.

The G7 Summit held in Kananaskis, Alberta (Canada) on 16–17 June 2025 brought together the leaders of the world’s most advanced economies, joined by the European Union and key international partners. Representing the EU, European Council President António Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen emphasized the importance of international cooperation to respond to urgent global challenges from energy and economic resilience to peace and security.

Integrated Dialogue Thriving Political Dialogue
On 21 May 2025, the African Union and European Union convened their 3rd Ministerial Meeting to evaluate progress on the Joint Vision for 2030, a roadmap for renewed partnership that was adopted at the AU-EU Summit in 2022. The meeting reaffirmed the strategic partnership between the two continents and emphasized mutual efforts in areas of shared interest, notably sustainable energy collaboration. Ministers welcomed the achievements made through the Global Gateway Africa-Europe Investment Package and reiterated their commitment to a prosperous and sustainable energy agenda aligned with AU Agenda 2063 and the Sustainable Development Goals.
