In an opinion piece for EURACTIV, AEEP Head of Secretariat Johan van den Berg, explains why Africa and Europe should focus their joint efforts towards harnessing the potential of wind in Africa. Drawing on five key recommendations presented in the AEEP’s policy brief ‘Wind Energy: Joining Forces for an African Lift-Off‘, launched at the EU-Africa Business Forum (EABF) 2022, van den Berg, notes that the challenge to electrify Africa through a much enhanced grid is ,however, as political as it is financial.

The Africa-EU Energy Partnership (AEEP) has launched its latest Policy Brief “Wind Energy: Joining Forces for an African Lift-Off”. The Brief was peer reviewed by the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) and RES4Africa and presented at the EU-Africa Business Forum (EABF) 2022 in a joint side-event with the European Commission, the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD), GWEC and Vestas South Africa.
European Union – African Union Summit Offers New Opportunities to Deepen the Continents’ Partnership
European Union (EU) and African Union (AU) leaders will meet for the 6th EU-AU Summit in Brussels on 17-18 February 2022. The summit convenes 55 AU and 27 EU heads of state and their delegations to discuss a renewed and deepened AU-EU partnership for the coming years.
On 2-6 February the 35th Ordinary session of the Assembly of African Union (AU) Heads of State and Government convened in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. During the Summit the continent’s priorities for the year ahead were discussed and the rotating leadership of the Union was handed over from H.E. President Antoine Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of Congo to President Macky Sall of Senegal.
EU-Africa Business Forum 2022: Building Stronger Value Chains for Sustainable Growth and Decent Jobs
On 14-18 February 2022 the EABF will take place as a virtual event. It will allow political and business leaders from Africa and Europe to align and discuss how to increase opportunities for sustainable economic partnerships.
