The 27th Conference of Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27) dubbed as the African COP, held from 06 until 20 November 2022 in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt. It offered a stage for climate and energy actors, along with the government officials, non-government organisations, and world leaders to address and showcase global climate action and reaffirm their commitment to limit global temperature rise to 1.5 degrees Celsius.
On 06 December 2022, AEEP convened the 8th Energy Talks where panelists discussed the key energy outcomes from the COP27 and the opportunities they bring to recalibrate the energy partnership between Africa and Europe towards accelerated implementation.
The panel featured representatives from European Commission (EC), African Union Commission (AUC), IRENA, African Climate Foundation (ACF), REN21, Africa-Europe Foundation (AEF) and Senegal.
During COP27 the Africa-EU Energy Partnership (AEEP) hosted an event together with the International Energy Agency (IEA) at the Africa Pavilion on the topic “Ensuring Africa´s rich, critical minerals endowment crucial to global energy transition is leveraged to promote SDG7 on the continent”
On 7 September 2022, the Africa-EU Energy Partnership (AEEP) hosted the second instalment of the AEEP Forum, titled “Advancing the Green Gateway Between Africa and Europe – Seizing COP27 for energy access and climate stability”. The speakers at the AEEP Forum emphasised the importance of re-aligning the African and European climate and energy agendas.
The Africa-EU Energy Partnership’s (AEEP) Policy Brief Wind Energy explores the main action areas that could unlock Africa’s enormous wind energy potential. By working closely together, Africa and Europe can leverage their existing partnership and secure wind’s contribution to Agenda 2063 and Agenda 2030.
Bonn, Germany – 4 November, 2021 - The AEEP Forum 2021 Spotlight summarises the key findings from the AEEP Forum on 20 October 2021. The Forum convened more than 500 stakeholders for a half-day virtual event to discuss Africa and Europe’s unique partnership on energy. Speakers highlighted that the African energy transition is an opportunity for the continent with immense potential for job creation, innovation and inclusivity.
