The sixth AEEP Energy Talks, on 29 September 2021, 14.00 – 16.00 (CEST), will present key findings of the 2021 AEEP Report: European Financial Flows on SDG7 to Africa. The results are discussed with a range of African and European energy experts, and connected to the outcomes of the UN High-level Dialogue on Energy.
A new report finds that greater coordination can make SDG7 a reality in Africa by 2030. The European Financial Flows on SDG7 to Africa report, commissioned by the Africa-EU Energy Partnership (AEEP), explores and contextualises the required funding and shows that the amounts needed, while substantial, can be leveraged. Merely avoiding the economic losses from electricity outages in Africa would free up the funds required to provide access to sustainable energy services to all of Africa´s citizens.
The Africa-EU Energy Partnership (AEEP) supports Power Futures Lab (PFL), a leading centre of excellence at the University of Cape Town, to deliver a virtual training on energy regulation. Targeting African utility and energy sector professionals, the training will enhance the specialised skills required to design efficient regulatory regimes for modern energy services.
In the first AEEP Energy Champion Conversation we meet Safiatou Alzouma Nouhou, the Director of the Independent Implementation Unit at the African Renewable Energy Initiative (AREI). She highlights the need to adopt a colloquial and inclusive apprach to make the African energy transition achievable.
Supporting energy access in Africa is a shared priority for Africa and Europe. Access to energy underpins the development of key social infrastructures and services, such as healthcare and education. Additionally, advancing energy access on a large scale can boost the economic development and the industrialisation of Africa.
